Phoned-Tech was founded in 2013 in Maalot-Tarshiha on a simple bet: most software problems are solved by experienced engineers writing the right thing, not by frameworks or methodologies. We're still betting on it.
We started Phoned-Tech because we kept seeing the same pattern. Smart founders with real ideas, hiring junior offshore teams, ending up with codebases nobody could maintain. Or large agencies overcharging for templated WordPress work. We wanted a third option — a small group of senior engineers, accountable, transparent, and as comfortable with cloud infrastructure as with React components.
Eleven years in, the team is intentionally small. Every project has a senior on it from kickoff to handover. We don't subcontract the hard parts. We don't disappear after launch. And we don't recommend a stack we wouldn't run ourselves.
What's changed in the last two years is AI — not as marketing, but as a real tool we use daily. We integrate LLMs into client products, we fine-tune small models when prompting hits its ceiling, and we build agents that act on your APIs with humans in the loop. We also use AI internally — for code review, doc generation, retrieval — which is why we can ship in weeks what used to take quarters.
We're remote-first, headquartered at 17 Haim Laskov St., Maalot-Tarshiha, with engineers across Israel and Eastern Europe. We work with startups from seed to series B, and with established teams that need a senior partner — not another vendor.
Senior or none
Every project has a senior engineer accountable end-to-end. We don't hide juniors behind a project manager.
Write before you build
Architecture documents, decision records, runbooks. If a future engineer can't understand it, we haven't finished it.
Own the operate phase
We don't ship and run. We stay through monitoring, on-call, and the first real outage. That's when you find out if it works.
Boring where it counts
Postgres over the framework du jour. Docker over the kubernetes-flavored novelty. Predictable beats clever in production.
AI honestly
We tell you when AI helps, when it doesn't, and when prompting is enough versus when fine-tuning earns its keep.
Transparent pricing
Sprint-based billing, written scope, no surprise invoices. If it's outside scope, we tell you before we work on it.
